My husband and I are in Arizona this week visiting my parents. We decided to take an impromptu trip to the Grand Canyon.

This is a bucket list destination and I’m thrilled that we can cross it off.  The photo doesn’t do the incredible beauty justice.

A few days before our daughter’s wedding the family gathered to celebrate our nephew’s 13th birthday.

Friends of my son-in-law’s family offered their cottage (and kayaks) to our family for the day.

Nieces and nephews, daughters, son-in-law and friends used the boat and kayaks to reach this spot and enjoyed being splashed by the Atlantic waves. It was a wonderful day – fun memories.

My daughter (whose middle name is Irene!) lives in southern Maine near the shore – a little south of Portland.

I asked her to take some pictures on Friday.

So here are two of the calm before the storm:

I hope to have equally beautiful photos of the area to post next Saturday.

My husband and I (and many relatives and friends) will be in Maine for our daughter’s wedding next week.

I’m sending good thoughts to all in Irene’s path.

This is Nikki, a nine or ten year old Westie.  Several weeks ago the person Nikki lived with passed away and Nikki was sent to a shelter. You can imagine what was in store for her.  The Westie Rescue came to her rescue and she ended up in northern New England where my daughter adopted her.  She came all the way from Kansas but Nikki is quickly becoming used to living near the Maine shore.

She even has her own life jacket 🙂

When my son stopped by the house last Sunday

he asked if I’d noticed the basketball hoop lately. I said “No. Why?”

He told me to take a look.  This is what I saw:

And then I looked a little closer:

A few months ago I snapped this picture of the Roosevelt Bridge in Arizona. According to information I found via a Google search it spans 1080 feet across the lake and is the longest two-lane single-span steel-arch bridge in North America.

Here’s my first Saturday Snapshot:

I grew up in a small Wisconsin town along the Mississippi River. I visited my parents last fall and one morning my Dad and I rode our bikes to the riverfront park. We’d heard the river was rising and wanted to see for ourselves. It was. The next day it was over the banks and covering a road or two. A week later things were back to normal. There’s flooding almost every year but some are worse than others. I’ve heard the river is on the rise again.
