Riverbend Road by RaeAnne Thayne

Description:  Protecting the streets of Haven Point isn’t just a job for police officer Wyn Bailey, it’s a family tradition. But lately she’s found herself wanting more, especially from her boss—and overprotective brother’s best friend—sexy chief of police, Cade Emmett. The only problem is getting Cade to view her as more than just a little sister.

Cade’s hands-off approach with Wyn isn’t from lack of attraction. But his complicated past has forced him to conceal his desire. When Wyn is harmed in the line of duty, Cade realizes the depth of his feelings, but can he let his guard down long enough to embrace the love he secretly craves? (publisher)

My take:  The latest addition to the Haven Point series is Riverbend Road. RaeAnne Thayne gives readers a look into the lives of a couple of Haven Point’s finest. Cade and Wyn have known each other since childhood and have worked together for the past few years. Gradually their friendship grows to a surprising (to them) romance of sorts. That’s a problem because he’s her boss. Along with this dilemma Wyn is concerned about a new family that moved into her neighborhood. Her internal radar tells her something’s not quite right. And on top of everything else she suspects her recently widowed mother has started dating someone. How can that be?

Riverbend Road features two people who’ve faced challenges in life and were made stronger as a result. It was easy to cheer for Wyn and Cade. This is a romantic story that focused on the importance of family and friends.

I love RaeAnne Thayne’s novels and Riverbend Road was no exception. They are warm and charming and this was a perfect in-between book. I’d read some heavier books and this was a welcome escape. It’s the fourth book in the series but can easily stand alone. Recommended to fans of the author and contemporary, small town romance.

Description:  Sparkle In The Snow Leads To So Much More. Celeste Nichols has always preferred to keep to herself in her hometown of Pine Gulch, Idaho…until she becomes an instant celebrity! When one of her children’s stories becomes a major success, she’s suddenly the talk of the town. Celeste should be gloriously happy…but something, someone, special is still missing from her life. Could the return of her childhood crush be the answer?

Flynn Delaney has moved back home for his daughter’s sake. Yet all the millionaire’s resources can’t help the little girl heal from the tragic loss of her mother. Shy librarian Celeste and her stories do hold some indefinable magic, though. Flynn came home looking for support—can he find that, and true love, in the one who got away?  (publisher)

My take: RaeAnne Thayne’s new Christmas story is a sweet tale about coming to terms with a new normal – especially for the young daughter of Flynn Delaney. When he comes back to Pine Gulch to prepare his grandmother’s house for sale Flynn meets Celeste who also happens to be his daughter’s favorite author.

Celeste and young Olivia find they have more in common than most people realize. That connection is a gift to them both. What no one expected was the connection made between Flynn and Celeste. What Flynn didn’t expect was a joyful Christmas this year.

A Cold Creek Christmas is a lovely novel and perfect for the season. I enjoyed it and recommend it to fans of RaeAnne Thayne and contemporary romance with a Christmas theme. Although this is the 14th book in the series it can stand alone. I’ve only read one other (last year’s Christmas book) and had no problem keeping up.

Description:  Christmas is the last thing on Cole Barrett’s mind this year. He’s barely hanging on trying to care for his two grieving children since his ex-wife died in a tragic accident. For the reclusive Cole, this is no time for gift-giving and celebration—and certainly not for a sunny-natured optimist to blow into his screwed-up life.

Physician Devin Shaw has long researched the curative powers of Lake Haven’s mineral waters. Unfortunately, the hot springs are on Barrett property, forcing Devin to strike a bargain with the ranch’s attractively gruff owner: she’ll give Cole’s children a magical Christmas, and Cole will allow her patients access to the springs. But can she work her holiday magic to heal the Barrett family’s battered hearts—and her own? (publisher)

My take:  Evergreen Springs is the third book in the Haven Point series. It can stand alone but I recommend reading in order from the start. Even though I’ve read her books for a year or so I consider myself a new fan of RaeAnne Thayne’s books. I love the emotional tone struck in each book.

In Evergreen Springs Cole Barrett is trying to do right by his children. He wants to give them a safe and secure place to live – something that’s been missing in their short lives. He also wants to establish his horse-training business at the family ranch he recently inherited. If that doesn’t seem like enough to juggle his very pregnant-with-twins sister has just moved in with him.

Devin Shaw is a doctor and, of course, wants to help people. When she meets Cole she can see he needs to be helped if not saved. He also needs to cut himself some slack. They hit it off but then he starts to feel she can do much better than him. But what if that’s not what she wants.

The theme of forgiveness runs through Evergreen Springs which makes it a perfect book to read during the holidays (or any other time of the year!). I loved seeing Haven Point decorated for Christmas and the cameos by previously featured characters were fun.

I enjoyed Evergreen Springs and recommend it to fans of RaeAnne Thayne, the Haven Point series, and contemporary small-town romance.

Blog Tour/US Giveaway: Redemption Bay by RaeAnne Thayne

A young mayor will do anything to save her town, even if it means welcoming back the man she blames for almost destroying it in REDEMPTION BAY (HQN Books, July 2015, $7.99 U.S./$8.99 CAN.), the second book in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne’s enthralling Haven Point series.

RedemptionBay_Cover

Synopsis:  McKenzie Shaw would do anything for her hometown of Haven Point. It may be small, but it’s never let her down…unlike gorgeous, infuriating Ben Kilpatrick.

Ben was her childhood hero until he closed his family’s boat factory, leaving the town’s economy in shambles.

But now his tech firm is considering opening a local facility. Her natural instinct, fueled by all these years of resentment, is to fight him at every turn. For Haven Point’s sake, however, McKenzie must grit her teeth and be as welcoming as she can manage—a task further complicated by her fierce attraction to Ben and her discovery that he is renting the lake house next door to hers.

For Ben, being back in Haven Point evokes all the dark and ugly memories of his childhood. What could a town filled with painful memories ever offer him? Yet seeing Haven Point through the eyes of McKenzie—its fiery young mayor—he suddenly has his answer. If only he can resolve the animosity crackling between them, Ben may have found the place where he can build ties and find healing…a place where love arrives when it’s least expected.

My take:  RaeAnne Thayne has quickly gone to the top of my auto-read authors list. She writes about small towns and the people who live there with such a clear, true voice that I find her books immensely enjoyable.

Redemption Bay is the story of Ben and Mackenzie. They knew each other when they were younger but now they’re in their 30s and have followed different paths. Ben is an executive in a tech company who is back in town to scout sites for a possible division of the company. Mackenzie is the mayor of Haven Point and knows what the location of the company could mean for her town. She has to get over her possible misconceptions of the type of man Ben has become and try to convince him that Haven Point is the perfect place for his company. Ben needs to come to terms with his painful past and be open to hearing explanations from people who matter.

I thought Thayne did a good job of developing the relationship between Ben and Mackenzie. She also brought unexpected drama to the story near the end that kept me turning the pages. I recommend this addition to the Haven Point series and can’t wait to read the next book. Fans of RaeAnne Thayne and the Haven Point series won’t be disappointed.

The Christmas Ranch by RaeAnne Thayne

  • the christmas ranch (Nov18)Title:  The Christmas Ranch
  • Series:  The Cowboys of Cold Creek #1
  • Author:  RaeAnne Thayne
  • Genre:  Contemporary Romance; Christmas
  • Published:  November 2014 – Harlequin
  • Source:  Publisher

Synopsis:  Hope Nichols has never felt as if she belonged anywhere, except her hometown of Pine Gulch. So, when she hears that her family’s property, Christmas Ranch, is set to be shut down forever, a determined Hope heads home. She refuses to let the Grinch steal her holiday. This will be the most memorable Christmas ever! And, thanks to hunky former navy SEAL Rafe Santiago and his adorable nephew, she might just pull off that miracle.

Rafe is undeniably drawn to Hope and her passion for rebuilding her family home. But he knows more about Hope’s tragic past than even she herself could imagine. And though she doesn’t know it, she owes him her life. And all he wants in return is for her to spend it with him.  (publisher)…

My brief take: The Christmas Ranch is a lovely story about two people who go above and beyond to help the people in their lives. Rafe put his life in San Diego on hold to care for his nephew in rural Idaho. Hope is determined to get the family Christmas Ranch up and running again in time for the holiday season. Once Christmas is over the two will go back to their separate  lives – or so they plan. Eventually they figure out that “sometimes what you think you want is different from what you really need”. It’s a sweet story that embodies the spirit of Christmas. Recommended to fans of the author and a sweet Christmas romance.

Snow Angel Cove by RaeAnne Thayne

  • Snow Angel Cove (Oct28)Title:  Snow Angel Cove
  • Series:  Haven Point #1
  • Author:  RaeAnne Thayne
  • Genre:  Contemporary Romance; Christmas
  • Published:  October 2014 – Harlequin HQN
  • Source:  Publisher

Synopsis:  New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne welcomes you to Haven Point, a small town full of big surprises that are both merry and bright

Nothing short of a miracle can restore Eliza Hayward’s Christmas cheer. The job she pinned her dreams on has gone up in smoke—literally—and now she’s stuck in an unfamiliar, if breathtaking, small town. Precariously close to being destitute, Eliza needs a hero, but she’s not expecting one who almost runs her down with his car!

Rescuing Eliza is pure instinct for tech genius Aidan Caine. At first, putting the renovation of his lakeside guest lodge in Eliza’s hands assuages his guilt—until he sees how quickly he could fall for her. Having focused solely on his business for years, he never knew what his life was missing before Eliza, but now he’s willing to risk his heart on a yuletide romance that could lead to forever.  (publisher)

My take:  RaeAnne Thayne begins her new series in the small Idaho town of Haven Point. She features a familiar character (Aidan Caine) from her Hope’s Crossing series. Aidan hasn’t had the best luck recently but no one would know because he keeps his private life private. That changes when he literally runs into Eliza Hayward in Haven Point. Eliza would say her luck has been worse than Aidan’s. I thought it was a toss-up.

Thayne sets the series up in this novel. We meet many of the locals who I’m sure will be featured in future books. The town is not doing well since the closing of a factory – the largest employer of Haven Point citizens. The locals are upset and not trusting of Aidan (the new owner of many of the buildings in Haven Point). I’m sure this theme will be woven through the next books. I also think Aidan will make sure he does all he can to help the town.

The Christmas theme is at the forefront as Eliza readies Aidan’s lodge for the arrival of his extended family for the holiday. Thayne’s descriptions were lovely and made for the perfect setting of a Christmas book. I liked Aidan and Eliza’s story but I thought it was a bit rushed near the end. No matter, it was enjoyable and I recommend it to fans of the author and a nice Christmas romance.
