Sunday Summary – Dec. 27

There was very little reading over the past week. We shared wonderful Christmas celebrations with relatives and friends. Santa left me a new Scrabble game (Scrabble Scramble) and Lost in Austen (dvd). Our daughters will leave for their city this morning and the house will be very quiet. I think everyone is looking forward to getting back to their routine. I know I need to get back to regular exercise – did I really eat all those cookies???

Check out the giveaway of Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. It ends on Dec. 28th.

Nely awarded me the Beautiful Blogger award. Thanks for thinking of me, Nely! This award asks the recipient to tell 7 things about myself and to pass it on to 7 bloggers. Here’s a link to another post where I wrote a similar list. I want to leave the award open to any blogger who’d like to participate.

Books reviewed:

Blue Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews
The Christmas Bus by Melody Carlson

Jessica James stopped by for a guest post about what we can learn from historical fiction. Jessica is the author of Shades of Gray – it’s one of my favorite books read in 2009.

Thanks go toPolishOutlander for the Honest Scrap award:

The rules of this one is to list ten honest things about me
and then pass the award on to ten other book bloggers.
So here it goes:

I’m one of 8 siblings (one brother, six sisters)
I have three children (all in their 20s)
I have a degree in music education – piano concentration
I’ve visited Ireland twice
I climbed (hiked?) Croagh Patrick once
My favorite colors are blue and green
I have green eyes
I love really good chocolate
I almost never say no to a Manhattan cocktail
I named one of my daughters after a character in Little Women
I hope to live part of each year in a warmer climate in a few years

So that’s a little about me.
I’m going to leave the award to anyone who’d like to participate. It’s fun!

Sunday Summary – Nov. 29

I reviewed one book last week – Bed and Breakfast by Lois Battle. It is one of my picks for the Holiday Reading Challenge. I thought it was a bit different from the usual holiday books but I liked it. You can read my thoughts here.

We’ve had company for the long holiday weekend so I haven’t had time for reading. It’s been nice to have everyone home. A few of us saw New Moon and we were split with our reviews. I didn’t enjoy it as much as my niece and one of my daughters. I didn’t hate it. I just want to know why they talk. so. slowly.

I bought a few books for Christmas gifts – that’s all the shopping I did on Friday (after the movie). I’m not an early bird shopper – are any of you?

Thanks to Justine at A Bookful of Thoughts for the One Lovely Blog Award

Sunday Summary – Sept. 20

I read and reviewed only one book last week – that’s unusual for me. The weather has been great (sunny and 70s) and I’ve been outside soaking it all in so that once the cold and snow arrive maybe I can remember these days and feel the warmth *smile*.

The book I read is 92 Pacific Boulevard by Debbie Macomber. My review is here. I’ve also been reading Angel Lane by Sheila Roberts. Review will be up in early October for the blog tour.

I highlighted Nocturnes by Kazuo Ishiguro for the Waiting On Wednesday meme.

A new award (Dragon’s Loyalty Award) arrived on Friday from its creator: Carter. And then Missy passed it to me today. Thank you so much, ladies!

The photo is the clematis around my patio. It started to bloom this week. Click on the photo to make larger.

Sunday Summary – Sept. 13

Author Michelle Moran wrote about “Life and Libraries in the Classical Age”.

I read Cleopatra’s Daughterand Labor Day. Click the title links to read my thoughts.

Ms. Moran offered two books for a giveaway. One lucky reader won Cleopatra’s Daughter and another equally lucky reader won The Heretic Queen (new paperback). It was a pleasure to spend much of the past week in ancient Rome. I’ve added Nefertiti and The Heretic Queento my TBR list.
