Mini Review:

Chronically Me: Flushing Out My Live and Times With IBS: A Memoir in Comics by Joy Spencer

chronically me (memoir)Joy Spencer’s memoir perfectly portrays the frustration of trying to find answers regarding a medical condition. Her frustration is conveyed by her humorous illustrations of medical appointments, treatments, and life with a chronic disease in general. I have to believe her book will put a spotlight on how people dealing with chronic diseases feel on a daily basis. Kudos to Joy Spencer! Recommended.

  1. Wow really great walking this week. I confess I didn’t quite make my goal this week, took one day off and left me with only 92% of my goal reached. Oh well, always next week.

    • I felt pretty good this week and loved taking advantage of the warmer temps to walk outdoors. The next couple of weeks will be unusually busy for me (our daughter is getting married 2 weeks from today) so I’m sure there will be days when I don’t have time to get walks. That’s life, right? 🙂

  2. I don’t have a treadmill so I only walk outside. I love seeing what’s going on in the neighborhood while I walk.

That books sounds like a worthwhile read. I find medicine frustrating because they can’t do anything for the conditions I have.

    • Me too – love seeing what’s going on in the neighborhood. My kids used to keep me in the loop but they grew up and moved so I’m on my own, lol.
The book is quite short and relatable to anyone who hasn’t had an easy time getting a diagnosis. I felt so sorry for her. And I’m sorry to hear you’ve had similar frustration.

  3. Nice results this week! I have a question: do you have a stand on your treadmill made for your book, or do you just prop it up? I was wondering if it was jolting to read while walking briskly on a treadmill..just curious for my own research, thanks 🙂

I also prefer walking in pleasant weather, only here in SoCal the seasons are reversed, so I won’t walk in the summer unless it is early or late in the day because of the strength of the sun. Have a great week reading!

    • Rita, I’ll try to remember to post a pic of my treadmill with the iPad on it next week. When the summer heat arrives here I only walk outdoors in the early morning. It gets so humid as the day goes on so even walking in the evening is not something I want to do. Thanks for stopping by!
