I came across one word I wasn’t sure of last week (although in context it’s not too difficult to figure out) while reading The Christmas Ranch by RaeAnne Thayne:
rictus – ric·tus – a fixed grimace or grin.
By the time Monday morning rolled around, Hope was afraid her face had permanently frozen in that rictus of a fake smile.
I had to look up rictus while reading Gone Girl and almost shared for WWW too! Glad I wasn’t the only one stumped. Have a happy Thanksgiving.

A wonderfully descriptive word.

I’ve heard that word used to describe the open mouth of a bird (my hubs is a nature show addict), but not as a grimace or grin.

I have never heard of rictus before, but I think I can picture it.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Mary!

That word sounded very familiar and I had an idea of what it meant but I couldn’t have defined it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Mary!

By the sound of it I thought this word meant something else entirely.
