Sunday Post

Happy December! How is it possible that we’ve reached the final month of 2012?

I was thinking this week about how my blogging has evolved since 2008.It seems lately I’ve managed to write a Sunday Post, a Mailbox Monday meme and one review – that’s it. Last week I posted a review for The Garden of Happy Endings by Barbara O’Neal. Really liked it. I’m a fan of Barbara O’Neal’s novels.

In other news…

photo-6We put up (assembled really – its been years since we bought a cut tree) the Christmas tree. It’s pre-lit and, judging from the photo, it looks its age and maybe like it needs a few new lights. Our daughter will come over Monday evening for dinner and to help with the ornaments (they’re in the red boxes). I still need to buy a wreath for the front door. That will be a wonderfully aromatic made-from-real-greens wreath.

What about you? Has your blogging changed much over the years?

Can you believe it’s December??

  1. Our tree is pre-lit as well. We haven’t brought it in the house yet, but I’m thinking it might be time for a new one.

My blogging has changed, I’m sure. It seems all my “reviews” sound the same.

  2. We put up our Christmas tree this week too. Actually, I assembled it and put on the lights while the kids were in school, and then they helped put the decorations on that evening. The fun part.

My blogging has gotten much simpler since I started. I used to be diligent about having a daily post, lots of author guest blogs, interviews, etc. It just got to be too much of a chore. Plus, I didn’t have any time to visit other blogs, which to me is a big part of the fun.

So, in 2012, I decided to calm down, cut back, and enjoy it more. My reviews are shorter, maybe two a week at most. Add a meme or two, and that’s about it! Now I have more time for blog hopping too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Mentally I’m not in December yet. It’s warm out and I’m still working out in the yard and going for walks as if it were October. Christmas decorations have been popping up around town but my little tree is still in the attic. Probably take it out next week. I’ve downsized to a 3 foot ceramic tree with built in lights. And most years I still buy the fresh wreath.

As for blogging… last week WordPress told me I’ve been blogging for six years. Huh? I didn’t realize it has been that long. Originally this blog was very different, just a bunch of random writing and observations, and the first two years of it I (thankfully) deleted. So yeah, my blogging has changed a lot.

    • The weather has been different, hasn’t it? We had upper 60s yesterday (Monday) but will be back in the 30s on Wednesday.
Six years is a long time! I guess most bloggers see changes in substance and style over the years. I enjoy visiting your blog, Leslie!

      • I enjoy visiting here too. One of the things I really like about the book blogging community is how interactive and friendly everyone is.

  4. This will be the first year I have put up a real tree – I used to use a pre-lit one and then for a few years we have gone to TX to visit my niece and nephew so no tree. This year everyone is coming to the city and I am excited for my real tree (hope I still feel that way when I am cleaning up needles all day long!).

Your blog has a nice rhythm to it – I think you have a good number of posts.

  5. I completely can not believe that it is December…and I am strongly considering a real tree this year! Mostly I am not looking forward to fluffing out the fake one! LOL…It’s not prelit so we have to string lights one way or the other!

And we all have our own blogging routines. after a year I still post daily but only 1-2 a week are reviews…the rest are guest posts, interviews and memes.

  6. Hi Mary,

We are not bothering with a tree this year, as we will be away for most of the month, so by the time we settle home again all the fuss will be almost over for another year.

We seem to adopting your US tradition of decorating the outside of the house and garden more and more each year, although it is still quite an unusual sight, here in the UK. We look forward to seeing all your lovely displays, when we visit Florida at this time of year.

My blog, although it seems to take up more and more of my free time, doesn’t get refreshed very often these days and my reading time is definitely on the decline as well. Sometimes I do wonder whether the blog is something I should continue with at all, but I do enjoy it and I love chatting with all the great new friends I have made. I really need to make some decisions about it all in the New Year

Have a great time finishing off the Christmas decorating,

    Yvonne

    • Hi Yvonne, some people go all out with the outdoor decorations. We are fairly simple with white lights on the shrubs and a wreath on the door. Enjoy your traveling this month.
I’ve given some thought to the direction of my blog – I don’t want to stop but I’d like to be even more relaxed in my reading schedule which would be helped by accepting even fewer review books. I need to learn to say “no thank you” ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. I can’t believe it’s December either. Yes, my blogging has changed since I started 4 years ago. I read more books and my reviews, I think, are not as long or detailed as they used to be. I have also become more picky about the books I choose to review.

    • I like shorter reviews – sometimes it seems too much of a book is given away in longer reviews. I’ve also become more selective in accepting review books.

  8. I can’t believe that the end of 2012 is just around the corner!!! We haven’t put our tree up yet because Matt’s schedule hasn’t worked so that we’re all at home the same time to go pick one out!! Plus, it’s hard to get excited about a tree when it’s raining and 50 degrees outside. I don’t know how people in warmer climates get excited about Christmas ๐Ÿ˜€

My blogging has stayed pretty much the same, but I am making a few changes for 2013. I will still blog but it will be a little different. Hardly any review books, more books from my shelves, even shorter reviews….that type of stuff!!

  9. Hard to believe it’s December – we say that every year don’t we? LOL No tree for us, just wreath and menorah. The kids do Christmas trees, but I stopped having a tree years ago. It always depressed me having to take it down…silly I know.

    Have a great week Mary

    • I think I do say it every year, LOL. I can relate to not enjoying the dismantling of holiday decorations. But then I also kind of like the cleaned up, fresh start to January ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. My reading and blogging ebbs and flows with the school year and depends greatly on whether or not I’m taking any classes. I am in one of those times when I barely have time to breathe and do anything non school related. Some day… some day… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. My blogging has definitely scaled back since I started. YOu just can’t keep up the pace you have when you’re a new blogger and all excited and crazy. But I love when blogs don’t post too often โ€ฆ makes for a more leisurely and realistic reading and writing schedule.

  12. My blogging has slowed considerably. I just can’t justify the amount of hours spent in front of the computer, especially now that I have cataracts and glaucoma. I feel like I’m stagnating. Like Kathy says, all reviews are starting to sound alike. I swear I am out of new thoughts.

Your tree looks lovely, Mary. Fresh cut wreaths smell so wonderful. That’s one of the things I miss down here. If we put a fresh wreath out, it would be cooked from the sun in no time.

    • Sorry about the eye issues, Kaye. I can see why that would dictate your blogging! Like Staci, I’m going to go even briefer with my reviews in 2013. I need to change things up a bit in addition to a new blog theme.
My parents are in AZ for Christmas and also can’t use a fresh wreath. Just too hot and sunny, poor things, haha.

  13. Looks like I’m not the only one whose blogging has changed. I’m posting less than I did a year ago. The other change is that I’m not spending two hours a day visiting other blogs. While I do miss out on good posts, it’s a big time drain.
