Saturday Snapshot

Here’s my first Saturday Snapshot:

I grew up in a small Wisconsin town along the Mississippi River. I visited my parents last fall and one morning my Dad and I rode our bikes to the riverfront park. We’d heard the river was rising and wanted to see for ourselves. It was. The next day it was over the banks and covering a road or two. A week later things were back to normal. There’s flooding almost every year but some are worse than others. I’ve heard the river is on the rise again.

  1. The river is such a vibrant gorgeous blue! It’s always exciting when the river rises here, but that’s probably because on our side of the river the bank is high, so all that usually happens is that our city park floods. I’m so glad we don’t live on a flood plain.

    • Alyce, this area is a flood plain. The flooding was catastrophic back in the 60s – so much that the federal gov’t moved all the homes to higher ground. Now it’s parkland with athletic fields, a civil war block house and other historical spots.

  2. That shot looks like a lovely place to pull up a deck chair and gaze at the river or read a book. Maybe not while the water is rising though. That must have been quite a spectacle!

  3. I’m amazed at the color of the river. I didn’t realize the Mississippi was that blue. The rivers I’m accustomed to are a bit more muddy.

  4. Beautiful water shot! I’ve only been a few weeks with Saturday Snapshot and I’m loving the great pics I’m seeing and I’m meeting some wonderful new people that I’m learning a lot about through their lenses!
