Author: Emma Donoghue
Genre: Fiction
About: (from Goodreads – a bit of a spoiler alert: read only if you don’t mind finding out more than I knew before I read the book) To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it’s where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.
Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. …more
My thoughts: I was completely absorbed in Jack’s world of Room – the 11 ft. shack where he and his mother live. The story is told by Jack, in a five-year-old’s words – that’s the wonderful aspect of what would normally be a tough read for me. If it seems like a book you wouldn’t usually read I say take a chance! I’m so glad I listened to Room. It’s a novel I won’t soon forget.
Source: The book was a gift. I also bought the audiobook.
Recommend: Yes, it’s a unique reading experience that is an even better listening experience.
I borrowed this one from the library, I started it too to see if it was good, and sure looked that way. But creepy and sad too

Creepy, I suppose in a way it was but it’s so much more.

This one just doesn’t interest me but from your review, I just may get the audio from the library and give it a try. I like the authors writing style but the subject matter of Room seems very creepy.

Bonnie, it didn’t interest me until I read a review of the audiobook – and that made me give it a try. I’m glad I did.

Have to look into this one soon. I keep putting it off since the topic is daunting… maybe I should do the audio book instead.
Another great review Mary 🙂

This was a different type of read, but that’s what made it so good. I wish I could really take the time to listen to audiobooks; it just seems that there’s never enough peace and quiet in the house for them.

Julie, I usually listen to books while on a walk or while knitting (which I did a lot of before Christmas – for gifts). Also, when I’m driving alone. It’s taken me a while to get into listening but now I’m a fan!
