A few days ago I saw a tweet from @skrishna about the Muffins That Taste Like Donuts recipe. Click the recipe title link to see the recipe. It’s at the Tasty Kitchen on the Pioneer Woman’s website. Since I had all the ingredients in my pantry and fridge I decided to give it a try and am pleased to tell you I have a new “go to” breakfast recipe. If you’re looking for a flavorful, surprisingly easy recipe this could be one for you!
Thanks for the link. They look delicious.

I’m not a big donut fan but I do like muffins. The cinnamon on those make them look delicious, I think I’ll have to try these out =)

I just read a tip for this recipe (that I plan to do the next time) at: http://letmestartbysaying.wordpress.com/2010/07/21/recipe-muffins-that-taste-like-donuts/
“Tip: I made 3 dozen mini muffins from 1 batch of dough. Baked for 14 minutes. Doubled the cinnamon-sugar, and covered the entire things in it. Mmmmm…..”

I’ve made this recipe many times. It is fast, easy and comes out perfectly every time.
If you want to have them warm for serving but want to prep in advance, you can also make the muffins ahead of time, leaving them ‘un-buttered’. I then put them in a warm oven on cookie sheets (about 250* for 5mins) to heat evenly, then using a fork to lift the hot muffins off the baking sheet, dip them into the butter and coat with cinnamon-sugar as usual. Delish.

Mmmmm… donuts. And they have nutmeg and cinnamon in them too. I think I’d like these.

I was kind of surprised by the nutmeg but it really does add to the overall flavor – in a good way 🙂

I copied the recipe and I’m anxious to try it out. I love donuts but don’t eat them because they’re deep fried. This might be the perfect substitute!
