Book Beginnings on Fridays

Please join Rose City Reader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.  Please remember to include the title of the book and the author.

I’m reading More Than You Know by Penny Vincenzi:

1971

It was nearly over then. By this time tomorrow it would be settled.

I’m only 22 pages in but I think I’ll enjoy this novel. It’s the first by Vincenzi I’ve read. If you’ve read any of her other books do you have a favorite?

  1. This is another author that I’ve meant to read more of. I think I’ve read one book written by Vincenzi – let’s see, it was BEST OF TIMES and I read it in August of 2009. Do I remember anything about it? No. Hmmm…I love the covers on the books, but again that headless woman. LOL

  2. The Spoils of Time series by VIncenzi is one of my favorite series of all time. The books, in order are: Something Dangerous, Into Temptation, and No Angel. They are terrific, and I couldn’t put them down!

  3. Oh, wow! I love this author, and I have this one on Sparky, my Kindle. Can’t wait to read it.

I think one of my favorites is Almost a Crime, which I read a little while ago. But it’s hard to pick one, since I’ve loved every one!

    Enjoy!

    Here’s MY FRIDAY MEMES POST

    Great opener!

  4. Hi Mary,

I am really intrigued to know what will be over with and settled by this time tomorrow, it sounds a little ominous to me.

I have never really been that tempted by Penny’s books, as they are always such ‘chunksters’. It would be interesting to know if she manages to fill so many pages with good quality material, or if they are quite well-padded with superfluous information.

Enjoy your book and have a good weekend,

    Yvonne

  5. I haven’t read anything by Penny Vincenzi either, but this one looks good. I will be looking out for your review of it!

I decided to participate in this meme this week – it’s the first time I saw it and it looks like fun!

    Have a good weekend!

    • I thought so too, Laura. From there the story quickly reverted to1958 so there’s some back story to fill in before we get back to 1971.

  6. I haven’t read her books, but this one looks like it could be very good.

Thanks for sharing the opening on Book Beginnings!
